So, You’ve Got $20 Million to Invest in the Figueroa Corridor…

Welcome to myfigueroa.com! This will be your one-stop shop for information on the Figueroa Corridor Streetscape Project as we begin the process of improving Your Figueroa. You’ve got $20 million dedicated to improving the Figueroa Corridor, and we need you to tell us how to use it!

Our goal is simple: bring everyone to the table to create a vision for a better Figueroa Corridor.

Why Now?
The Community Redevelopment Agency of Los Angeles received a $20 million grant from the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) to come up with a plan to transform the Figueroa Corridor into a pedestrian, transit and bike-friendly area and provide much-needed open space amenities for this area rich in a variety of uses.

Why the Figueroa Corridor?
Why not? When discussing this project with members of the community, one question we did received was: “Why not my street?” Well, part of the reason why the Figueroa Corridor qualified for the grant was the concentration of new market-rate and affordable housing being developed in the project area.

In case you haven’t noticed, the Figueroa Corridor is an exciting place to live, work and play right now. This funding enables us to plan for the infrastructure needed to support that growth. We’ll delve into this subject a bit more in a future blog post.

Want to Help? Tell Us About Your Figueroa!
Get involved and shape the future of the Figueroa Corridor that you know, but may not yet love. We’re still in the initial phases of the project and gathering information to better understand the Corridor and how to make it better. It’s hard to figure out where to go if you don’t know where you are, right? So that’s why we need you. When we say you, we mean everyone, if you work, live or study near the Figueroa Corridor or are one of the many Angelenos who visit our famed corridor to watch a game, enjoy a show or visit our great restaurants, we want to hear from you. Peruse our blog, check out our Facebook and Twitter accounts, and most importantly – attend one of our workshops!

For now, join the conversation! Leave a comment to tell us about how you use Figueroa. Do you you walk, ride the bus, drive, jog? Have a favorite lunch spot; own a business? We want and need to know to make this project a success. Let the journey begin…
